"...so, there I was... standing completely naked."
A buddy of mine in college used to use that phrase all the time to start conversations. He swore it was the best way to get someone's attention. Now that I have yours I guess I should explain what the heck this is that you're reading.
Here's the short version.
The media has big problems.
The biggest one is cheap laptops.
Too many people own them.
Those people have Internet access. And some of them run killer web sites.
The guys in offices full of leather furniture in Manhattan also have laptops.
They run the traditional media.
They don't know how to use their laptops.
They don't get what's happening.
Period.
What the crap does that have to do with this site? Well, let's just say it's because there's no leather furniture in my office. And, I know how to use my laptop. I, and the station where I work, believe a lack of transparency is one of the biggest problems with the media today. So, this little blog is one of many steps in the coming weeks and months that we'll be employing to help KTAR Pull Up the Blinds.
You see, there are some of us in the media, who don't view ourselves uniquely and superbly qualified to act as the gatekeepers of information dissemination. Yes, we've got framed diplomas in broadcast news and lots of years of experience writing and reporting. But, at the end of the day our jobs are about meeting your needs. What's important to you is important to us. We have a license from the federal government that requires us to serve our community. To me, a big part of that "service" is listening. Listening to you.
So, today in this littler corner of KTAR.com, I begin a new dialogue with you, part of the KTAR audience. What can you expect? Well, I plan to get on this thing a few days a week and answers your questions about the things you hear on News 92.3 KTAR-FM. I already get your email. I hear your voicemails. I know you have complaints. I appreciate your compliments about our talented team. Bottom line, you deserve to have a better view inside your News, Traffic, and Weather Station. That doesn't mean we'll agree. But at least you'll have a bigger voice.
I encourage you to call my direct line, or send me a direct email (the number and email address are on the upper right of this blog) if you have something you want to privately communicate to me. Or, you can be much more public and click on the "comments" link below and let the world read your opinions. I won't filter what you say (unless you use certain four letter words). So, tell us all how much you think KTAR sucks. Or, go off on how much you love Ankarlo or Pat, or whatever. I'll respond on this blog.
Welcome along for the ride...

I would not put it past that you get some mexican hater crazy to do some harm at the march planned may 1. please stop Ancarlo. I feel he is fireing people up Ktar will surely suffer publib backlash if some goes wrong.

I have to give you major props for creating this blog. You are right on with your comments about the media. It's why I have never gotten a newspaper and never will. Nice job, KTAR.
