The story is all over the Internet.
Headlines blare that another Hollywood Superstar has declared She's Gay. At least this time the homosexual community can be glad the lesbian is better looking than Rosie.
Today, during a surf across the online sea of news stories, I got flashed with Jodie Foster's sexual declaration. Another woman has decided she likes other women. Great.
The announcement apparently came at an awards ceremony in Beverly Hills. The biggest shock has to be this awards event isn't allowed to consume six hours of prime time TV. Hooray for Hollywood! But, I digress.
"I would like to thank my beautiful Cydney who sticks with me through all the rotten and the bliss," Foster spoke into the microphone. No, she didn't say Caleb or Calvin. It wasn't Carl or Carson. No, she said Cydney. And, yes that's a girl's name.
Look, I've got nothing against homosexuals. Some of the highest quality people I have the privilege of knowing are gay. Don't call me a homophobe. As a father of three, I'm just asking for a little help here.
If my kids were old enough to watch something other than Noggin' and could surf the net beyond NickJR.com, I wonder what their view of reality would be like. Certainly they'd be well aware of homosexuality. They'd know all about how sex factors into casual relationships. They'd think almost all marriages fail. And, they'd certainly be conscious of drugs and alcohol.
But, how familiar would they be with the healthy family unit?
The Sierra Club couldn't be more screwed up. At the top of their list of endangered species should be the traditional family.
You know what I'm ready for from Hollywood? How about a speech like this from a leading actress at an awards show:
"I'd like to thank the Academy, and my husband of 27 years. He was there for me when I decided not to do drugs. He supported me as I have always controlled my social drinking. And, when I left my house with the proper under clothing on and did not seek shots of my crotch on TMZ my hubby believed in me. You're the best, Pumpkin!"
I love Bill Cosby's latest book. When he takes a break from lamenting the current state of Black America, he goes after the very entertainment industry that made him rich.
"Too many programs - where do we begin? - use sex as a way to capture an audience. Today, even during the so-called family hour, TV shows are so loaded with sexual innuendos, suggestive situations, and foul language you'd think you were watching the adult after-hours channel," Cosby wrote.
As if the shows weren't bad enough, the media coverage of actors and actresses is limited to the newest nude pictures, drug arrests, custody battles, and declarations of homosexuality. When was the last time you saw this headline on the cover of an entertainment magazine:
"Hollywood Star Announces He's Straight, Committed to His Wife and Children, and Doesn't Have a DUI! Pictures Inside!"
Cosby continues. "Few of these shows [on TV] say one word about love. The industry's idea of a relationship is - "You see me. I see you. You want it. I'm going to give it to you. We're both hot. Now let's do it."
"Where is the courtship? Where is the tension? Where is the romance? Mothers and fathers used to protect their daughter's virtue or at least tried to. The boy had to respect the girl and honor her parents. This did not always happen, to be sure, but there was at least the expectation of it, and the media reflected that expectation," Cosby wrote in Come on People.
No, I'm sorry Dr. Huxtable, times have changed. Today the world cheers when yet another celebrity has the courage to declare their homosexuality. Young, beautiful female stars advance their careers by leaving behind their panties for the paparazzi. And, oops, another DUI leads to a leading role.
It's too bad the stands are emptying in the cheering section for morality and family stability.
No, you see that crowd has become distracted with fighting over whether Mormons believe in the Real Jesus or Catholics have purged the pedophiles.
And, as Cliff points out, the suite of apathy is sold out.
After all, kids will be kids. Right? Heaven knows if they're going to have sex they're going to have sex. They're going to try booze at some point anyway. And, what's the harm with a laptop in Johnny's bedroom?
What can we do about it?
After all, times have changed.
Honey, hand me the remote!

Marilyn:
You're your own worst creep-out. Trust me.
In the past I've seen Leibowitz supporters (Leibo himself masquerading as someone else?) posting on this site, and have seen fit to smack them down when possible, since their criticisms are consistently, stereotypically, non-constructive, retrograde, "bring back Leibo" statements.
The reason I talk about ...witz is that I can remember him on the air handling conservative callers with arrogance during his liberal reign, as self-important, tail-end, last-of-the-Baby-Boomers, lib, Talkmeister-flash and the furious narcissism.
One paricular call from a concerned anti-abortionist was shut down quickly by David, with absolutely no mercy or tolerance for a point of view supporting innocent life.
Not exactly compassionate, I would say!
Definitely shallow, though trendy.
I'm merely exercising some free speech on this board, now that KTAR has mercifully gone conservative.
Sorry you don't have a sense of humor, but you're typical of most libs: satire escapes you. Unless, of course, it's bashing-the-conservatives satire.
Years, and years of Leibo on radio and tv vs. a few posts from me is hardly unbalanced.
Odd that you find them strange. Perhaps you're the odd duck here.

Joe J. Thanks for the offer but no thanks. It seems a bit creepy. But you still didn't answer the question about the fact that every one of your posts - no matter what the topic - always leads back to Lebo. Very strange.

Maybe he took your girl friend away. You are so fixated on that man that it has to be more than just his politics. Too strange for words!!
Joe Jacari says: What's too strange for words is your obsession with my comments about Leibowitz. What, did Leibowitz rub your feet and feed you cookies and warm milk such that you defend any mention of his liberal do-nothingness?
Perhaps I should have a restraining order put on you for your obsession with my comments.
Just kidding! I can take it.
If you let me rub your tummy till you purr, and then feed you a ham sammich wif chocky-milk, definitely we can be little friends...
Yawn...
You make tired. I'm sleepy now.
ZZZ-ZZZ-ZZZ...

Great post Russ.
Keep KTAR humming with traditional American values (known as racism and xenophobia to the liberal psychotics who's psychological polarity is wired in backwards so that good is bad and bad is good).
Yes, astute observation on her perverted, confused sexuality. I, too, am sick of actress role models setting a poor example for our kids.
Homosexuality, historically, until the gay militant activists forced their agends on the psychiatric community, has always been viewed as abnormal psycho-sexual behavior. Freud knew it was perverted.
I know, I know, David Leibowitz doesn't think so and he's ohh so smart! NOT!
And, yes, I know many of our most creative, artistic souls are gay. And many are not.
No, people, snow is NOT black no matter how much you say it is. And homosexuality is a perversion of the natural sex act whose purpose, first and formost, is procreation of the species.
Two women or two men together, as sex partners, is pure narcissism. That is, a male and a male or a female and female coupling are like mirror images of each other--hence narcissism.
Homosexuality is, at best, immature and selfish. It's also a very, very unhealthy lifestyle, whose presence rises and has always risen as civilizations are in collapse.
Traditional religious belief stands in the way of your insatiable hunger for members of your own sex, as used for your own selfish gratification.
That's why you are bigoted and xenophobic toward good Mormons, Catholics, Baptists, et al.
Homosexual love liberates one from the traditional forms of motherhood and fatherhood so necessary as a building block of a stable society, and adds to the general confusion which abounds today.
I know, I know. You want to scream at me. You are so conditioned to hate morality you're almost having a breakdown.
I know, I know, bring back Leibo. He understands his little puppies.

wow, what a hypocrite you are… …in lieu of your flooding the Valley airwaves with nonstop hate and xenophobia in a continuous stream…

Mr. Hill: You are the one who brought sex into Jodie Foster's comments, not Jodie Foster. In fact she did NOT 'declare' her sexuality, as you snidely suggest. She simply thanked her partner of many years, the same as many straight entertainers do when they accept awards. It's folks like you, Mr. Hill, who somehow insist on reading sex into such simple statements. If those standards were applied across the board, then every time you mentioned your kids, I could wag my finger your way and say, 'now, now, Mr. Hill, would you please stop flaunting your sexuality!' Because by your standard here, that's exactly what you're doing. So lighten up a little. There's a huge difference between the antics of Rosie O'Donnell and the benign comments of Jodie Foster. That you see them as anything but benign is what's disturbing here, Mr. Hill.
